Using a mandoline, adjust the size to ⅛". Use the mandoline safety guard holder and slice the apple evenly.
Preheat the air fryer to 300 degrees F for 5 minutes.
Add the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Place the trivet on top of the apple slices. Air Fry for 10 minutes.
Open the air fryer basket, most of the apple slices will have dried up a bit. You can then move the apple slices around the basket so they will not overlap.
Air fry for an additional 2 minutes and check on the chips again. Turn them over and space them out as needed, take out the pieces that are a medium brown color.
Continue air frying the chips, check on them every 2 minutes until the whole batch is done. Total air fry time should be around 18-20 minutes.
Notes
Chips are done when they have an even light-medium brown color. They will be pliable and “floppy” when you take them out, but will dry out and crisp up when they cool. If they are pale yellow and very soft, then add an additional 1-2 minutes.
Keep a careful watch of the chips at the 15 minute mark. Just like with frying food in oil, you will need to take out the pieces that are done to prevent overcooking. Smaller pieces will cook faster.
If you have a smaller air fryer basket, additional time may be needed.
To keep the chips crispy, make sure to take them out of the air fryer basket as soon as they’re done. This prevents the chips from steaming.
Place cooked chips on a plate in a single layer until ready to eat.
These are best eaten immediately. They will turn soft if you try to store them in a closed container.
