Making breakfast should be quick and easy in the morning. This french toast recipe for baby-led weaning is simple and a snap to whip up. My baby and pre-kinder enjoy it with some fresh berries.
Ingredients
Whole wheat bread - choose low sodium breads. I use Dave Killer's bread.
Butter -use unsalted butter for baby, as their immature kidneys are not able to process a lot of salt yet.
Whole fat milk - Give whole fat milk for your babies. Don't be afraid of it. Babies need full fat milk for good growth and brain development.
Directions
- Whisk the egg, milk, vanilla extract and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl.
- Add one slice of bread to the bowl and let it soak into the egg mixture. Turn the slice over to soak the other side.
- Heat a nonstick pan on medium high heat. When the pan is hot, add the butter. After the butter melts, add the egg soaked slice of bread to the pan. Lower heat to medium and cook for about 3 minutes, making sure the egg is cooked thoroughly.
- Flip the toast when golden brown and cook for another 3 minutes. Repeat with the other slice of bread.
FAQ
Before baby tries anything new, make sure to introduce single ingredients every 3 to 5 days to ensure baby is not allergic. As long as baby has already been introduced to each ingredient (egg, bread, milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract) with no allergic reactions, then french toast will be okay for babies to eat.
If your baby shows any signs of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis or asthma, please talk to your doctor before introducing new foods.
Remove the crust and cut the toast into thick strips for baby to grasp onto and eat. For babies/toddlers learning to use a fork, they can also be cut into bite size squares.

My little one is learning to use a fork, so slicing the toast into strips is easy to grasp and helps him practice his fork skills!
