Ingredients & notes
Rice - I am using Jasmine rice for a nice and fluffy texture.
Chinese sausage - This Kam Yen Jan brand is one of the best sausages around, in my opinion. It cooks easily and has the most delicious salty flavor to add to the rice. You can get them at most Asian stores. If you’re not able to get these, feel free to use ham or your meat of choice. Leftover rotisserie chicken would be great as well.
Eggs - Eggs are an essential ingredient to fried rice and yes, it will cook well in the rice cooker!
Vegetables - Frozen vegetables are my go-to for convenience. If you want to use fresh veggies, all you have to do is dice them into smaller pieces.
Soy sauce - Use regular soy sauce, or low sodium works well too.
Fish sauce - My secret sauce for the flavoring, get a bottle of fish sauce at your local Asian market.
Chicken broth - adds additional great flavor to the rice.
Equipment
I am using a Tiger JBV- S series. The cooker is also small enough that it doesn’t take up a lot of counter space, but has the capacity to cook up to 5 cups of dry rice for larger parties.
Instructions
1). Prep the ingredients, wash and drain the rice, mince the garlic, chop up the onion and cut the sausage into smaller pieces.
2). Add the rice, broth, garlic, onion, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar and butter. Then give it a swirl to mix together.
3). Add veggies, sausage, and a beaten egg on top of the water.
4). Set the rice cooker to cook. When done, fluff the rice and mix the ingredients together.
Garnish with green onions, serve with a side of sliced cucumbers.
Pro tips
- After washing the rice, make sure to drain it well, otherwise the rice will become mushy with the excess water.
- Some sides that go great with ice cooker fried rice are: seaweed, avocados, cucumbers and carrot sticks.
- Serve with Sriracha for some spice.

I followed the instructions exactly, but the rice didn't cook all the way. I used a Hamilton rice cooker, though, that was significantly less expensive than yours, so maybe that was the problem.
Kaylie
Sorry to hear that, next time you can just hit the cook button until it cooks through.

Great recipe for a busy work night. Easy and delicious. I added a little oyster sauce, about the same amount as the soy sauce. Mixed in sesame oil after the rice was done cooking. Hard to tell the difference between rice cooked on the stove in a wok, best part is not having to stand over a hot stove.
Kaylie
Thanks for sharing! I'll try the oyster sauce next time, and wow - I'm sure the sesame oil really kicked it up a notch! YUM!
Marcy
This was great. I think I added a little too much liquid so it was a bit mushy but the flavor was out of this world! Will try again with less liquid!

I'm so glad you liked it, and sorry to hear it came out mushy. I use Jasmine rice, and with my rice cooker, 1 1/4 cups broth works great. Try using 1 cup and two table spoons of broth next time and let me know how it turns out.
