    Equipment

Rice Cooker – I use a Cuckoo six-cup model, which is perfect for our family of four and can cook enough rice for large gatherings. While this rice cooker has multiple functions, I use the regular rice cooking function to ensure consistent results, even for those with a simple one-button rice cooker.

If you have a single-function rice cooker with just a cook and heat button, this recipe will work too! I’ve tested this method on a one-function Tayama rice cooker, and it works great.

    Ingredients

Large eggs -This recipe is tested on large eggs. Small, medium and extra large eggs may have slightly different cooking times.

    Instructions

    1. Add 1 cup of water to the rice cooker pot (for larger rice cookers, add more water as needed).

    Eggs in rice cooker pot.

    2. Place the eggs straight from the fridge in the inner rice cooker pot—up to 7-8 eggs in my 6 cup rice cooker.

    3. Close the lid and press the cook button.

    4. Set a timer based on your preferred egg doneness.

    5. Once done, transfer the eggs to an ice bath or run them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Turn off your rice cooker and unplug to prevent the water from further cooking and evaporating.

How to Easily Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs

Rolling cracked egg on a board.
    1. Tap the egg on a hard surface to crack the shell.
    2. Roll the egg gently on the surface to further loosen the shell.
    3. Peel off the shell, starting from the cracked areas.
    4. Rinse the egg under cold water to remove any remaining shell pieces.

    • Ramen – A runny egg yolk adds some creaminess to a comforting bowl of noodles.
    • Thịt Kho Trứng – A Vietnamese caramelized pork and egg dish.
    • Easter Eggs – Hard-boil a batch of eggs for dyeing and decorating with vibrant colors and fun designs!

    Frequently asked questions

What are health benefits of hard-boiled egg?

Hard boiled eggs are packed full of protein (6 grams of protein in one egg ) and minerals. They are great eaten in moderation and the healthy fats in eggs will keep you full for longer.

Do you start boiled eggs in cold or boiling water?

Boiling eggs in cold water will heat them up slowly. In this rice cooker method, the eggs are started off in cold water.

Can you eat boiled eggs after 10 days?

Per USDA recommendations, boiled eggs will keep for a week in the fridge.

    How to Store

Keep peeled or unpeeled hard-boiled eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

They will stay fresh for up to 1 week.

    How to Reheat

Place the eggs (peeled or unpeeled) in a cup of hot water and cover with a lid.

Let them sit for about 10 minutes to warm up.

⚠️ Warning: Never microwave a hard-boiled egg! The heat creates pressure inside the egg, which can cause it to explode in the microwave—or even in your mouth, which is extremely dangerous. This can happen even if the egg is cut in half prior to microwaving!
