Ingredients & Notes
Chocolate - I bought a huge bag of Halloween candy for trick-or-treating, so I took some of the bite size chocolate bars to use for this recipe! However, if you don’t have that handy, you can also use chocolate syrup.
Equipment
Skillet - A non-stick skillet works best to make these pancakes.
Squeeze bottle - A bottle with a narrow tip will help you control the flow of batter as you create each design. You’ll need a 16 oz bottle to fit all the batter in.
Toothpicks or Ziploc/piping bag - To create the faces, I like to use toothpicks to “draw” the chocolate on the pancakes, which gives me more control. You can also use a Ziploc or piping bag to apply the chocolate.
Instructions
1). Add the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl.
2). Pour wet ingredients into the bowl.
3). Mix with a whisk to break up most clumps in the batter, until absorbed and smooth.
4). Pour the batter into the squeeze bottle.
5). Heat up your skillet to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. First outline the shape of the ghost pancake.
6). Quickly fill the outline in. The batter will “settle” and fill in the body.
Make other fun Halloween shapes like pumpkins, a witch's broom and hat!
Use toothpicks to dip into the melted chocolate or syrup and decorate faces on the pumpkin and ghost pancakes. Alternatively you can add the melted chocolate to one corner of a Ziploc bag, seal the bag and cut a small tip off of the corner to use as a piping bag.
Pro Tips
- Make sure the milk is at room temperature when adding to the bowl, otherwise it can cause the butter to seize up and clump, which will clog the squeeze bottle.
- If using chocolate bars, melt the chocolate in the microwave, in 30 second intervals, stirring it in between until the chocolate melts evenly.
- This pancake batter will be on the thinner side so it flows easily out of the squeeze bottle and fills in the body of your design.
- Make sure to break up any clumps, even small ones, this prevents it from clogging the tip of the squeeze bottle.
- Draw the images quickly and cook at a low temperature (200 degrees Fahrenheit) so the pancakes cook evenly.
- Keep the tip of the squeeze bottle close to the griddle surface, this allows for better control when outlining your design.
