Ingredients & Notes
Chicken wings – You can use all “wings” or only “drumettes,” up to you!
Dry rub seasoning – This easy mixture includes paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, oregano, chili powder, salt and pepper.
Optional sauce – If you like your wings wet, use a barbeque sauce to toss the wings in after they’re air fried.
Instructions
- Dry the wings with a paper towel.
- Mix the dry rub spices together well.
- Add the dry rub seasoning onto the wings and coat evenly.
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes. Cook the chicken wings for 15-18 minutes.
Air Fryer
I am using a Philips XL analog air fryer. For two pounds of chicken, I cook them in two batches.
Pro Tips
- Don’t stack the wings on top of each other. You want to make sure they are in a single layer with enough space to allow the heat to crisp up all sides.
- Cooking times and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer model and size.
- There is no need to add oil to the chicken wings, there is enough fat on the skin to crisp it up while cooking.
- If you like it spicy, add more chili powder and a bit of cayenne to the seasoning.
- Make sure the air fryer basket is clean. The oil from the wings may cause it to smoke up.
- After the wings are done, take them immediately out of the basket. Leaving them in there will result in steaming! Serve immediately!
- Enjoy with your favorite sauce!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, for this dry rub recipe, the wings should be fully thawed. It will allow the seasoning to stick on better, and your wings will cook more evenly.
This depends on how big your basket is. My basket has a 3 pound capacity, but I can fit 1 to 1 ½ pounds of chicken at a time, as I space them out to cook.
Is it better to bake or air fry wings?
Air frying is the way to go if you like your wings crispy with a golden crust. It’s hard to achieve crispy chicken wings in the oven without overcooking them.
